Bike Preparation

My FZR did not need too much work.

I changed the oil and filter, and glued a crack in the windscreen. I noticed that the clamp holding the exhaust wrap on my exhaust pipe had been partially ground down from hitting the ground. Oops, that's not the thing you want to be hitting the ground first! I spent some time trying to raise the exhaust and also replace my "parts from an old aluminum ladder" muffler bracket with a nice-looking one that Dave McGrath gave me to replace the one that was torn off the bike in "the incident" at Thunderhill.

Endurance Bike Details

Team Psycho's endurance mount is Dan Baisch's 1992 Honda CBR600F2. Dan's bike had a rough year last year -- I crashed it twice, and Dan crashed it once, too.

With the well-thrashed bodywork, and the gas tank from Dan's street bike, the many-colored bike is pretty easy to spot during the race.

We ran Bridgestone slicks. A medium front with 31 psi, and a hard compound rear with 31 1/2 psi.

We had tire warmers borrowed from Gene Brown for the race. This was a big help, as the hard-compound slick can take several laps to get up to temperature. With the tire warmers, the tires have a big head start on warming up.
